Business Made Simple

Author: Donald Miller

Simply put, this is one of the very best books I have read to date about how to start, manage, grow, and scale a small business.  This book also teaches about character and allows you to take an honest look in the mirror.  Donald Miller communicates with the very heart of my thought process and offers practical, yet compelling insight on how to truly be successful.  I certainly plan on doing a 2nd and 3rd read cover-to-cover to gain new wisdom and perspective!

The Color of Law

Author: Richard Rothstein

I have been reading this book for the past several weeks. It has truly opened my eyes to why many of the housing and socio‐economic situations for many African‐Americans and minorities is so broken. It details the legal pathways blocked that would have made the playing filed even decades ago and why the battle is uphill and steep today. It is a highly recommended read!

Evicted

Author: Matthew Desmond

I read this book over the summer and it is sobering and heart‐wrenching. It details stories of families in different parts of the US who have faced and continue to face the threats of eviction from their homes. It contains well‐written stories of family, struggle, triumph, laughter, discouragement, and more all within its pages. I certainly have a deep sense of gratitude and perspective after this read.

It is also a highly recommended book!

Your Five Next Moves

Author: Patrick Bet-David

This book gives a very effective and engaging overview of running your business like a chess Grandmaster. I see it is having dual-vision; seeing your business from the chess-board level and also a bird’s eye view. I appreciate Patrick’s insight, experience, honesty, and connection with the entrepreneur throughout the book. I certainly gained useful knowledge and motivation to not only think of the present but 100% plan out my next five moves with Visionary Lending.

Principles

Author: Ray Dalio

This book is literally filled with wisdom, direction, inspiration, and a sobering view of Mr. Dalio’s journey to bring his company to world prominence. I’ll be honest, it took be a few months to finish; primarily because there’s so much to note and apply but also it’s a few hundred pages long. But let me tell you….it’s worth every page! This book tops my current list because of its honest accounting of personal character viewpoints and the candid narrative on running a successful organization.
